Recently, I have been intrigued by the concept of the Conscience and as to whether I should trust the same... I discussed about it with friends, read about it and thought a lot more about it.
Before I talk about the Conscience, this is what I think about society:
Society is wicked, needy and useful, But its also a gullible fool. So Use it, Help it, Fool it! But make sure u don't end up being the fool.
Presenting it in the simple way, I assumed that "Conscience is something that can be pricked by your actions and the pricking makes you aware that you are wrong." I trusted it. I thought that the conscience was something that all human beings were gifted with, to be able to choose between right and wrong.
Let me highlight a few things I observed and realized:
1.No sin can be good in India and bad in America. Sin is bad everywhere and is the same everywhere. Similarly, no good can be good in India and bad in Singapore. Good is good everywhere and is the same everywhere.
2.Conscience is a by product of Morality.
3.Morality lays down the standards of good conduct.
And then I realized that my cousins in America, my friends in Italy, Goa, and Delhi had different ideas of morality compared to mine and our conscience would not always prick to the same actions. What was right for me was wrong for them and vice versa leading me to the my fourth observation;
4.Society decides morality.
Now, if society decided morality and conscience is a by product of morality and "sin & good" is the same everywhere, but people from different places and cultures has their conscience (standards of rights and wrong) react differently and you still trust your conscience, isn't it possible that you are being fooled by society to believe and act up on a stagnant chart with bullets telling you what is right and what is wrong? I think so. I think it makes you a man of CHARACTER when you trust your conscience. And a man of character is one who is loved by society, one who has a preconceived idea of what is right and what is wrong and acts up on it, a bag of society friendly bio-chemical activity with a pre-set reaction to every action. Someone who has lost his inner self and truth to the whims and fancies of society (the fool).
So now, I decided that I did not want a Conscience that made me a woman of character or a fool who blindly trusted society on everything!
But, I could not be lost, I needed something to guide me and help me act and I realized that what I needed was "Consciousness" that would not endeavour to make anything out of me, but would help me be aware of what the true ME is!! and in Consciousness, you are more aware of every single little thing that happens in life, it makes your inner self unaware of sin (not the one society has taught you.. but the real one). A Conscious woman would never sin, unlike one who is pricked by her conscience and lives in fear of society, trusting it, hating it and knowing that there is no greater fool than society... She would never react to circumstances, but would respond to it. She would feel the Holy Spirit. She would be free of guilt, of sin, ego and foolishness. Best of it all, she could be true to her self and her being!! :))
I am shaking my conscience off, I am reviving my consciousness that I lost to a fool's game.
I am still evolving in my thoughts and in life. Yours could differ from mine and I humbly stand to correction.
